Practical guides for two

Share the work without creating another management job.

A list can hold tasks. It cannot decide who owns the next step, whether either person or both people need to act, or what should stay private. These guides focus on the handoffs that make a shared system dependable.

The short version

A useful household system does more than collect reminders. It makes responsibility explicit, keeps the current state visible to both people, gives each person a focused daily view, and leaves genuinely private work outside the shared household.

Start with the problem you are actually trying to solve

Some households need a lightweight shared list. Others already have a list and still rely on one person to remember the context, connect messages to calendar entries, check whether something was handled, and prompt the next action. The second problem is not task capture. It is responsibility moving between two people without disappearing.

What DuetFlow means by clear ownership

One of us

Either person can take the task. One completion closes it for the household.

Both of us

Each person has something to do. One person finishing does not erase the other person’s part.

Just one of us

The owner is named and visible, so the task does not quietly return to the organizer.

Just mine

Private work stays in a separate private space. The other person cannot see that it exists.

Built from an asymmetric household, not an idealized one

DuetFlow is built and used by a household where one person wants a dependable GTD system and the other wants a clear view of what needs doing. The goal is not to turn both people into planners. It is to let a serious system carry the shared state while each person sees the part they need.
